The way in which they decide whether or not the case is extreme enough to prescribe the drugs as well as having the sessions with a psychiatrist is determined by the progress over the first few months with one of the single treatments. Here are some of the different types of therapy and also what kind of situations they help people with;

- Dynamic and psychoanalytic therapies – These are usually worked on as a short term development and are carried out in the way that unlike other therapies that focus on specifics including feelings and actions at particular times it works more on a level of interpersonal problems and also factors from their past that may be affecting them now and so causing their problems. The aim from this treatment is to be able to determine the cause for negative thoughts and actions of the person, so there fore helping them to determine where their feelings originate from and how to stop them affecting their lives now.

- Treating SAD syndrome (Seasonal Affective Disorder) – This is a disorder where by people’s moods are greatly affected by the weather. That is why most people with the disorder are only affected during the winter months usually through January, February and March. Symptoms of this disorder include; an increased feeling of fatigue and finding it very hard to stay awake, but also waking up extremely early and not being able to get back to sleep, cravings for sweet foods high in carbohydrates this usually resulting in weight gain, getting very irritated easily and a lack of wanting to be in social situations. When spring begins these symptoms will go away but will then bring symptoms such as hyperactivity and extremely raised energy levels over a very short period of time usually around 4 weeks. Although there are great feelings of fatigue there are usually very little feelings of depression or anxiety associated with the disorder, though they can be present as a result of the fatigue.

- Interpersonal therapies – These therapies are used in various circumstances for example it helps with problems you may face socially such as grief due to loss, encouraging the end of a negative relationship, helping the patient to gain control of their ability to deal with stressful situations and the possibility that past relationships could still be affecting them in some way at the present time.
